Before finishing the fifth stage, the racers will have to travel through 15.4 km of cobble stone in the region of Paris.
New Stage Cities
Although the competition is about the same each year, on every occasion there is something new about the route. This year nine new stage cities have been added. Leeds and Harrogate are added to stage 1, York and Sheffield are added to stage 2, Cambridge is added to stage 3, Ypres in addition to stage 5, Oyonnax is added to stage 11, Risoul is the new entry to stage 14, and Maubourguet Pays du Val d’Adour will be added to stage 19.
A Bit of History
While in our days it is normal for some people to ride thousands of kilometers as part of a race, in the 20th century France anyone who has been dreaming of such things would have been considered crazy. However, Geo Leferve, a journalist had an ambitious plan. His editor was by his side and he financed this crazy idea. Sixty pioneers started the Tour de France back in1903, starting from Montgeron. Back then the route wasn’t this long, but still, only 21 bikers arrived to the finish line.
If you are a true biker, you should get your gear ready and think seriously about taking part in the competition. You can be sure that it will be nothing like you have experienced ever before and you won’t regret the decision you have made.
