About this deal

I read it anyway; I generally don't allow peer pressure to sway my decision as to whether or not to read a book. If you are crazy about triathlon, and are looking for lore to pass on to future generations, Iron War fits the bill with the description of the race. Regardless of whether the book is fact or fiction, it is fantastic entertainment and well worth the read. It's not just about the 'race' but also 2 very different training styles, 2 very different people and 2 very different approaches to training.

If you’re looking for inspiration to get you started on base training for the spring/summer seasons, check it out. I found plenty of inspiration in this, even though I'm about as amateur as a triathlete can be and these guys operate at a completely different level. Out on the bike, again, it was Scott setting the pace, keenly aware that of the two men up the road, Dietrich was a strong rider and not someone he wanted to let get away. More than a compelling story, Iron War is a fascinating exploration of how Scott and Allen pushed themselves and each other - and what it takes for anyone to break through perceived limits. It is absolutely comparable to Krakauer, Bowden ( Blackhawk Down), or Sebastian Junger ( The Perfect Storm).Really, I work in IT and I've heard computer text-to-speech programs with more emotion during dialog than this loser. So intense was the drama, the race came to be known as 'Iron War' - the single most awe-inspiring sporting event ever witnessed. com (October, 2011) "The 1989 Ironman® World Championship is widely considered the most epic race in Ironman history, if not all of endurance sport.

Iron War is about a decade of racing when the wins were divided between Dave Scott and Mark Allen—an old veteran and a newbie, with whacky approaches to the sport. Having completed 3 Ironman races I know I have learned loads of great tips with this book and it has also helped me to realise that no matter what I might dream I will never be this talented or motivated!

Iron War made for an exciting read about a grueling rivalry as the Ironman triathlon developed and gained notoriety in the early 80's. The other (Allen) takes a more spiritual approach, letting his body tell him what it needs and freeing his mind of all negativity.
