About this deal

the story is based on love and second chances but there is also an element of how we can be lead down a completely different path that we were expecting to go down. On the negative side it does feel too long, there is extraneous detail that gets in the way and maybe a few too many characters.

Lara and Ben meet in NYC, eighteen years later, they’re forced into a reunion by their daughter, Elisa…that Ben is unaware of!However it ticks every box in readers expectations of the genre and I’m glad I read it as it makes a pleasant change from my usual reading. I am speaking from personal experience as I was almost exactly in the same position as Eliza, though a bit older than her. On one hand, I liked it but on the other, it didn’t keep my attention – I had no trouble putting it down. I liked the story because it brought out such strong emotions in me, even though they may not have been the ones I was supposed to feel. This is actually my first time reading anything Lucy Diamond has written and I will make sure to try out her other books.

Lucy is the Sunday Times bestselling author of eighteen novels including The Beach C afé and Anything Could Happen . You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I’ve used a pen name because ‘Diamond’ is a lot easier to spell and pronounce than ‘Mongredien’ and also because I’ve written lots of children’s books too and wanted to keep the genres separate. Gently humorous and largely predictable escapism with my main complaint being how needlessly drawn out the entire second half felt. One night her colleague drags her to a bar for a drink and she meets Ben, a graphic designer on holiday with some mates.Whilst I usually like a novel with a little more intrigue involved this book was an undemanding and engaging break from my usual genres. At its core, Anything Could Happen is a book about love, family, second chances and how one decision can truly change your life. Fast-forward nineteen years and daughter Eliza is an eighteen-year-old with university on the horizon and furious that the man she was led to believe was her father and left when she was three, actually isn’t. Eliza has just turned 18 and although she hasn't seen her father Steve in years, she now wants to reconnect with him. Lara finds herself pregnant and alone despite attempts to contact Ben and brings her daughter Eliza up as a single parent.
