About this deal

Even without a codex of their own, Craftworlds Eldar have undergone some rapid developments following Games Workshop’s drive to encourage armies to play to their strengths. The Eldar mythic cycles tell of the legend of Karandras, "the Shadow Hunter," the mysterious Phoenix Lord of the Striking Scorpions Aspect. No one knows his origins or where he came from, for he was not the oldest or the most skilled of the Exarchs of the Striking Scorpions when he rose to become the Aspect's new master. It is said that this singular honour belongs to the one that came before him, Arhra, the "Father of Scorpions," the most sinister of all the Phoenix Lords. Arhra was lured to darkness and betrayed Asurmen and the other Asurya, the first Phoenix Lords, by bringing daemons into the First Shrine to wage war upon his fellows. Those loyal to Asurmen were defeated and scattered across the stars, but Arhra himself would eventually flee into the Webway, becoming "the Fallen Phoenix who burns with the dark light of Chaos." Whether he lives is still unknown, but many Eldar have their suspicions that after he began walking the Path of Damnation, Arhra fled to the Dark City of Commorragh where he became the first Dark Eldar Incubus Hierarch and founded the first Incubus shrine. Many Eldar believe that Arhra survived into the present and become Drazhar, the Master of Blades, the greatest champion of the Dark Eldar Incubi. It is also believed that Karandras was a Striking Scorpions Exarch, and the greatest student of Arhra, who took over control of the Aspect Shrine after the corruption of its Phoenix Lord. Karandras taught the Striking Scorpions the patience and discipline they needed so that they would not follow in their founder's wake and lose their immortal souls to Slaanesh, "She Who Thirsts," when their bloodlust and murderous desires overtook them. Karandras was last seen duelling for Drazhar for 17 standard days in 928.M41 amongst the shattered ruins of the ancient Eldar world of Zandros. Outnumbered and unable to defeat his former master in combat, Karandras artfully goaded his predecessor into a blind killing frenzy over the course of a gruelling seventeen-day battle. At a critical moment, the Shadow Hunter melted into a patch of darkness and disappeared entirely, leaving his nemesis to slaughter every one of his own disciples in a murderous rage. Representing the balance between the fury of emotion and the cold surety of skill, it is synonymous with the Path of the Warrior.

Since GW has decided to give us the middle finger with overpriced Howling Banshees and whatever-it-is the Dark Eldars got, I've decided to list all the decent proxies one could find on the Internet (or at least all I know about), in case it may help someone get the minis he wants.Phoenix Armour - The legendary Phoenix Lords wear ancient, invaluable Aspect armour so finely wrought it is proof against almost any weapon. Contemplating suicide, Iliathin lived alone in the temple for several Terran years. His life was ultimately given new purpose by the feral Aeldari female child Faraethil. Though initially shunning the girl, when Faraethil was later assaulted by the hedonistic Aeldari survivors now calling themselves Drukhari, Iliathin renamed himself "Asurmen" after the god Asuryan and saved her. Asurmen agreed to take the girl as his disciple and they left the ruins of the Crone World of Eidafaeron behind, eventually gathering to them more like-minded survivors of the Fall. Contemplating suicide, Iliathin lived alone in the temple for several years but was saved by an Eldar feral child Faraethil. Though initially shunning the girl, later when Faraethil was assaulted by Dark Eldar, Iliathin renamed himself Asurmen after the god Asuryan and saved her. Asurmen agreed to take the girl as his disciple and they left the planet, eventually gathering more like-minded followers. [5] If every model in an INFANTRY unit is on or in an Area Terrain feature with this trait, then it can either Hold Steady or it can Set to Defend (see below) when an enemy unit declares a charge against it. Jain Zar was born Faraethil on the world of Eidafaeron shortly before the Fall of the Eldar. She had been left at the Kurnussei as an infant by her parents, spending her formative years as a blood-dancer gladiatrix performing for the gratification of her Master and thousands of spectators. She knew little of life outside the arena that she was largely ignorant of the Eldar Empire's pantheon of gods [8d] [15a] [15b].

It’s not just Maugan Ra who gets a rule like this – all of his Phoenix Lord pals have something similar. Asurmen * and his Dire Avengers can advance to the midfield, merrily cutting down foes with their Avenger shuriken catapults before claiming an objective. What’s more, each of the six gets a substantial boost to their stats, befitting their status as mythical exemplars of war. Aspect Helmet - Each warrior Aspect has its own distinctive helmet, and within each shrine the helmet may vary in form slightly, with correspondingly more elaborate versions for the shrine's Exarchs. As a standard Dire Avenger, the helmet is distinctively tall with a long top crest of exotic animal hair, often dyed to match the parent Craftworld's colours. By custom, it is this helmet that marks the Aspect Warriors as the protectors and avengers of their Craftworld. It bears the Dire Avengers Aspect's rune, the Mark of Asurmen, traced upon its forehead. The Phoenix lords are Exarchs so ancient that they have no shrines and no Craftworlds to call home. They wander from world to world, instinctively driven by war, attracted by intuitive power to places of great danger and need. During moments of desperation they appear, sometimes alone but often several together, depending upon the perils faced. Using the Eldar Webway they move from Craftworld to Craftworld and from planet to planet, following in the path of the Bloody-handed God. [1a]

Each Phoenix Lord founded one of the Aspect Shrines of the Asuryani, and is the embodiment of that aspect of the Aeldari War God Khaine. First on the shopping list? A new wardrobe, of course! Woven from psycho-reactive materials that mould to their every movement, an Aspect Warrior’s sacred raiment offers protection beyond even the Guardians’ upgraded wargear. As such, every Aspect Warrior* now has the new Aspect Armour ability, which offers an impressive invulnerable save. Prior to the Fall of the Aeldari, Asurmen was an Aeldari originally from the world of Eidafaeron named Iliathin, who lived an uneventful and boring life there like all his kind. Before the Fall, he was skeptical of the prophecies of doom for the Aeldari Empire being spread by those Aeldari who would become the Exodites. The Shuriken ability on their catapults boosts Armour Penetration on a wound roll of 6 – combined with an extra shot and a higher base Armour Penetration, these guns can slice through power armour as if it were paper. Dire Avengers are now Elites – as they richly deserve – but with the Phoenix Lord Asurmen around, these crested warriors can retain that all-important Objective Secured ability. Eldar wouldn’t be Eldar without psychic powers, and we’re happy to report that this remains true in 9th edition. With three different Psychic Disciplines, there’s a colossal number of psychic abilities to choose from. Particularly noteworthy is Protect/Jinx, a Runes of Battle ability that gives a friendly unit +1 to saving throws or -1 to an enemy.
